Where It All Started

RĀW was born at the intersection of crisis and curiosity. When chronic illness met an open mind, two ancient traditions pointed the same direction.

Two stone bowls side by side on linen. One holds Eastern medicinal herbs (goji berries, ginseng, jujube). The other holds Western whole-food superfoods (blueberries, açaí, chia, greens). Together they represent the intersection of ancient wisdom and modern nutritional science that inspired RĀW Superfood Café.

Our founders were not looking for a restaurant concept. They were looking for answers. When conventional medicine offered only symptom management, they turned to something older: Eastern philosophy, which holds that food is not just fuel but medicine. That every ingredient carries elemental energy, warming or cooling, yin or yang, capable of restoring balance or deepening imbalance.

And they turned to something precise: Western nutritional science, which confirmed what Eastern traditions had practiced for centuries. Foods rooted in whole plants, dense with nutrients, could prevent disease, reverse inflammation, and rebuild the body from the inside out.

The Eastern Connection

On their journey, our founders connected with Herman Siu in Los Angeles, a 6th generation Shaolin Monk. What he taught them was not just spiritual; it was elemental. In Eastern philosophy, every food carries a nature: warming or cooling, yin or yang, drying or dampening. These properties determine how food interacts with the body's internal environment, either restoring balance or disrupting it. Inflammation, the root of most modern chronic illness, is a sign of elemental imbalance. And when given the right food, the body can correct it.

Herman's teachings did not contradict Western science. They completed it. Where nutritional science measures macronutrients and micronutrients, Eastern medicine measures energetic properties and elemental alignment. Together, they form a complete picture of what food actually does to the human body.
